Tucked along the shore of Lake Hollingsworth, Florida Southern College holds a distinction that surprises many visitors: it is home to the largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture anywhere in the world.
Beginning in the late 1930s, Wright designed a sweeping campus plan, and over the following decades a series of his buildings rose among the orange groves — connected by covered walkways he called esplanades. The Annie Pfeiffer Chapel remains the most iconic of them.
Worth a visit
The campus is open to visitors, with guided tours and a visitor center for those who want to learn more about the architecture and its restoration. It’s one of Lakeland’s genuine cultural landmarks — and a point of pride for the community.
