Lakeland's biggest Independence Day tradition returns Friday, July 3, when the T. Mims Corp. Red, White & Kaboom celebration takes over Lake Mirror and the Frances Langford Promenade from 6 to 9:15 p.m. — with a fireworks finale at 9 p.m. and extra meaning this year, as the city ties the free event to America's 250th Anniversary. For local families, it's a free, downtown evening of music, food trucks, and fireworks over the water — no ticket, no admission line.

According to the City of Lakeland, the night centers on a patriotic theme as the community joins celebrations across the country marking 250 years since the nation's founding. The city describes it as a chance for families, friends, and neighbors to gather, honor the country's history, and enjoy one evening on the waterfront. All City of Lakeland parking garages will be open for public use.
The lineup
Music starts early. The Sing Out Crew, a local youth singing group of grade-school students directed by Renard Hayes Jr., opens with a patriotic set from 5:30 to 6 p.m. After that, Lakeland's own Bully For You headlines with a high-energy mix of rock, pop, and dance covers. The fireworks over Lake Mirror cap the night at 9 p.m.
Bring a can, help a neighbor
Admission is free, but organizers ask every attendee to bring at least one non-perishable food item. Donations benefit Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE), the nonprofit serving seniors across Lakeland, Bartow, Mulberry, and Fort Meade. The city says VISTE gives boxes of supplemental groceries to more than 1,500 elderly neighbors each month. Most-needed items include canned soup, tomatoes, peanut butter, canned chicken and tuna, pasta, ground coffee, and canned beans — no glass.
T. Mims Corp., the sponsor since 2009, framed this year as the moment to make the food drive the most successful yet. The event itself dates back to 2004, and it lands on July 3 each year because Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium hosts its own July 4 fireworks after the Lakeland Flying Tigers game.
Food trucks at the Magnolia lot
This year's vendors set up in the Magnolia Building parking lot and around Lake Mirror, with a long list including Chick-fil-A, Pipo's Latin Food, Mango is Mad, Spontaneous Consumption, Castro's Cafe, SB&B Seafood, Burger 21, Big Hot Box, Glazed Up Mini Donuts, Chief's Food Truck, The Sweet Spot, The Pudding Queen, Corn Stars, and J&L Smoke Pit.
